A Proud Milestone for Kennards Self Storage New Zealand

The Kennards Self Storage (KSS) acquisition of National Mini Storage is now fully integrated and rebranded, marking an exciting milestone for our business in New Zealand.

The acquisition in 2025, bringing the 13 Auckland storage centres and the 45 team members into the KSS system and practices, was a significant undertaking. It required a tremendous amount of work across operations, technology, training, and customer service, and the engagement from both teams has been very pleasing to see. It is something the whole KSS team can be proud of.

The integration of technical backend systems is now complete, giving customers a seamless KSS experience across New Zealand, starting with the online experience through to move-in and ongoing customer support. Team training and customer service enhancements have also been embedded, ensuring customers continue to receive the standard of service they expect from KSS.

The acquisition of the portfolio is game-changer for Kennards Self Storage, as it means KSS hold the most significant, recognisable and highest quality self storage locations across NZ, with a particularly strong position the Auckland market.

Over three decades, National Mini Storage patiently accumulated a network of premium gateway locations to cement itself as the dominant Auckland storage operator. The quality of these properties directly mirror the KSS brand and portfolio characteristics: great locations, strong visibility, convenient access, and long-term customer relevance. Their strategy of focusing deeply on one market entrenched the market strength, economies of scale, and brand power.

Meanwhile, KSS had three existing locations in Auckland, so acquiring National Mini Storage was a very attractive strategic fit. Together, the combined network gives customers across Auckland greater access to secure, convenient, and high-quality storage solutions.

As the largest private family-owned self storage company in the world, KSS is enthusiastic about New Zealand’s economic future and will look to strengthen our position for the long term.

The finishing touches to the transition are now complete. The team are very excited by the opportunity ahead. This is a proud moment for KSS, and an important step in the next chapter of our New Zealand business.
