Sam was appointed to the position of Managing Director in late 1994, taking over from his father Neville Kennard (who attempted retirement).
Sam originally joined Kennards Self Storage in 1991, after completing a Bachelor of Business (Land Economics) at Hawkesbury Agricultural College.
He has worked in a number of customer-facing roles, as well as Operations, Marketing, Construction, Finance and Property Acquisitions and Development.
With over two decades leading the company and growing from 12 centres in 1994 to over 80 today across Australia and New Zealand, he has accumulated extensive experience in the business, property sector and self storage industry.
As well as self storage development, his career includes large scale acquisitions and mergers of multi-site self storage groups, most notably the $220 million acquisition of Millers Self Storage in 2004.
In addition, he has arranged and negotiated significant debt funding and been instrumental in educating Australian Lenders about financing the Self Storage Asset Class.
He has been passionately committed to creating a business that distinguishes itself. With his Team they aim to stand-out from other companies as a place to do business with and also to work at.
Sam has also served on the National Committee of the Self Storage Association of Australasia, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Anthony is a Chartered Accountant who joined Kennards in 2012. Prior to Kennards Self Storage Anthony had 18 years with Coca-Cola Amatil working in various roles around the world including Austria and Central and Eastern Europe, Slovenia, Sydney and Fiji.
Anthony’s passion is to continuously look for better ways to deliver value add across the Kennards business. As CFO Anthony manages a team of seven who deliver Accounting, Management Reporting, Statutory compliance and Treasury as well as support for Centres in relation to National Accounts and Banking Support.
A student of technology with a passion for understanding how things work, Jeff Xanthos is the CIO at Kennards Self Storage where he spends most of his time aligning the wider business and customer experience to progressive strategy.
Jeff believes technology has the power to connect Teams, Business Operations, with Strategy and Customer Experience. Technology is not the answer but the enabler to an effective work place and a positive culture where results are driven through people not software or machines.
Currently H.K. has an executive role with Kennards Self Storage as the Financial Controller. Having worked with Neville since 1984 and is currently one of the key management people in the Company. He has a strong financial management background and brings many strengths to the Company.
Tony joined the Kennards Team in 2011. He started his career at Coles Supermarkets working through all levels of management and departments. He then became a franchisee at Michel’s Patisserie. After selling his stores he worked as a Franchise Business Consultant for Michel’s and later Boost Juice Bars.
Through these roles Tony is able to bring skills in managing and developing teams within Kennards.
Tony's interests include watching/playing tennis, anything to do with cars, yum cha and cooking.
David has close to 30 years experience in the property and funds management industry. Prior to establishing his own boutique property group in 2007, he was the Chief Executive Officer (Asia Pacific) of the ASX listed Goodman Group. Prior to being the CEO (Asia Pacific), David was Goodman’s Groups Chief Operating Officer.
David worked for Goodman for more than a decade and before joining them he was the Fund Manager of ASX listed Paladin Industrial Fund and an Associate Director of CDH Properties (acquired by KPMG).
David has a proven track record at both executive and Board levels of the development and implementation of effective business stratergy. He also has extensive and practical experience in change management.
David is the Chairman and an Independent Director of the ASX listed 360 Capital Group Limited. In August 2016 David was appointed to the Council of the University of New England. He also sits on a number of advisory boards. David is a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute.
David holds a Bachelor of Business (Land Economy) from the University of Western Sydney and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of New England.

Darryl joined the Kennards Team in 2005 with the expansion that came from the acquisition of Millers. Having gained his start in hospitality Darryl came to Kennards with many years in the Casino industry.
As Operations Manager he is responsible for business performance across NSW and the ACT and part of the Marketing Team.
Darryl is passionate about the high industry standards that Kennards sets and the value of the solutions provided to customers. Off duty you’ll generally find Darryl outside and generally with a motor.
Sathish joined Kennards as a Financial Accountant for the KVSI portfolio. In June 2013 he was promoted to Financial Controller, with overall responsibility for the Group Financial Reporting, Debt Finance Administration and Compliance Reporting.
A voracious reader of varied topics, he also enjoys playing and watching cricket and tennis. He loves spending time with his family and is an ardent fan of the Parramatta Eels.
Wayne Birch is a highly skilled self storage specialist establishing 20 years’ experience with Kennards Self Storage - a period which has seen involvement in the creation of numerous new self storage facilities across Australia and New Zealand. Wayne has a personal interest in the development of people and he believes that successful people will always endeavour to be their best and do their best at all times.
Based in Melbourne, Wayne’s current role within Kennards is managing storage Centre’s in the metropolitan regions of Melbourne. He is an award winning Team Member obtaining many ‘Adding Value’ Awards including the prestigious ‘Dragon’ Award during his time with Kennards.
Known as a keen sports enthusiast, Wayne’s business life experiences have evolved from a background in managing building hire and theatrical lighting equipment Company’s.
Over the years, Wayne has been a sourced speaker at the SSAA (Self Storage Association Australasia) Conference in New Zealand and various SSAA Victorian Regional Meetings.
Andrew has been Operations Manager for Kennards Self Storage New Zealand since 2008. Previously working in Operations Management roles in Private Health Care, Cleaning and Car Parking. Having a hands on approach to his role and a quiet competitive nature that likes to lead his Team to success.
Being an avid Cricket and Rugby fan, he is particularly loyal to the NZ National Teams.
Jelena joined Kennards team in October 2017 as Operations Manager for NSW. Jelena’s business background comes from the fashion retail and FCMG industry. Jelena believes in personalised service and her passion for customer service was born on firsthand experience. Jelena believes the only way to do great work is to love what you do, she has strong passion for Kennards culture and its people. She consistently looks for better ways to improve herself and her team, with focus on growth and development.

Carolyn is a retail and operations professional with over 20 years of experience in retail and tourism, both in the development and launch of new business’s, and in progressing established brands. Her retail expertise includes customer service, sales growth, procurement, merchandising, warehousing and logistics in bricks and mortar and online retail sectors. Carolyn is a successful executive with an outstanding track record in both operations and innovation. Her previous senior management roles include BridgeClimb, Roses Only, and Fresh Flowers.
Nicky joined the Kennards Team in October 2016 as Operations Manager for QLD. Nicky’s business back ground comes from the fashion and industrial work wear industry. As well as her passion for Kennards Self Storage Nicky’s focus is her Team that she works with, knowing that the key to success is ultimately through its people, listening to Customers and Team Members share their own stories and experiences.
Nicky enjoys working with a remarkable Team in a fun supportive way fostering the Kennards Culture.
Personally Nicky is devoted to her husband and blended family of 7 kids, 3 dogs and 4 chickens. Nicky’s moto is: “Keep smiling – frowns are too much hard work!”
Fiona Harding is a passionate and driven Business Development Manager specialising in National Accounts and Customer Relationship Management. Joining Kennards in 2005 she is committed to finding long term sustainable storage solutions for companies looking to decentralise their operations throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Fiona completed studies in Interior Design and Decoration at RMIT and SWSI graduating in 2008.
She consistently uses her creative flare to deliver first class customer service and out of the box solutions for clients.
Craig joined the KSS construction Team in July 2015 to assist in the on-going task of overseeing the expanding building program.
Craig brings with him 30 years of development design, building and supervision through a variety of residential projects, retirement living developments, land subdivision development, industrial building design and multi-storey commercial projects.
Trained in structural and civil design drafting, Craig gained further qualifications as a licenced builder and has a Diploma in Building.
Michael started with Kennards in May 2005 just after the Millers acquisition and brings over 20years of experience gained in various design and construction roles and sectors. The role of Kennards Development Manager covers the full property cycle starting with site assessment onto design and planning approvals, through to construction and then handover for the team to operate; paying particular attention to ensuring the detailing is to the Kennards specification.
Prior to Kennards, starting with a drafting job in his Father’s architectural practice, Michael held senior design and construct roles with Dyldam Developments and Mirvac.
